چکیده

The ability to recognize human activities is necessary to facilitate natural interaction between humans and robots. While humans can distinguish between communicative actions and activities of daily living, robots cannot draw such inferences effectively. To allow intuitive human robot interaction, we propose the use of human-like stylized gestures as communicative actions and contrast them from conventional activities of daily living. We present a simple yet effective approach of modelling pose trajectories using directions traversed by human joints over the duration of an activity and represent the action as a histogram of direction vectors. The descriptor benefits from being computationally efficient as well as scale and speed invariant. In our evaluation, the descriptor returned state of the art classification accuracies using off the shelf classification algorithms on multiple datasets.

An Experimental Study on Blinking and Eye Movement Detection via EEG Signals for Human-Robot Interaction Purposes Based on a Spherical 2-DOF Parallel Robot

Blinking and eye movement are one of the most important abilities that most people have, even people with spinal cord problem. By using this ability these people could handle some of their activities such as moving their wheelchair without the help of others. One of the most important fields in Human-Robot Interaction is the development of artificial limbs working with brain signals. The purpos...

Human-Oriented Tracking for Human-Robot Interaction

In order for human-robot interaction to be effective in real-world environments, it needs to be natural and transparent. To achieve this, we need to facilitate direct, proximal communication between humans and robots. Our approach is to use computer vision to enable robots to observe and react to human activity. In this paper, we describe the development of real-time, computationally efficient ...

Integration of a Voice Recognition System in a Social Robot

Human-Robot Interaction (HRI) 1 is one of the main fields in the study and research of robotics. Within this field, dialog systems and interaction by voice play a very important role. When speaking about human-robot natural dialog we assume that the robot has the capability to accurately recognize the utterance what the human wants to transmit verbaly and even its semantic meaning, but this is ...

9 Face and Gesture Recognition for Human - Robot Interaction

This chapter presents a vision-based face and gesture recognition system for human-robot interaction. By using subspace method, face and predefined hand poses are classified from the three largest skin-like regions that are segmented using YIQ color representation system. In the subspace method we consider separate eigenspaces for each class or pose. Face is recognized using pose specific subsp...
